Extracare Reveal Retirement Village Plans

Planning proposals have just been submitted by Extracare to develop a £40 million retirement village on Hagley Road.

Initial proposals for the seven-acre site on The Calthorpe Estate show provision for up to 250 one and two bedroom homes, available for affordable rent, part purchase and sale, each with their own front door, kitchen, living and shower room.

The scheme includes a village centre with 18 health and leisure facilities where residents and visitors, aged 55 plus, can share skills, interests and social events.

Details of the venture between Birmingham City Council and The Extracare Charitable Trust were revealed to residents and contacts at The Botanical Gardens on Monday 25 January with over 700 people coming along to see and talk about the plans.

Subject to planning approval, construction could begin next year with the site opening in 2013.
