Located on the prestigious Calthorpe Estate, Edgbaston, the 65 bedroom Premier Inn and 6,000 sq ft Beefeater Grill restaurant that will be called ‘The Duck’ is set to act as the catalyst for further regeneration of the city’s western gateway. Developed by Whitbread, the hotel and restaurant are expected to generate around 70 new jobs.

Multibuild are steaming ahead with construction and completion is anticipated for early 2008.

Mark Lambert, Director of Development at Calthorpe Estates commented: “The restaurant, which is the first new Beefeater in six years, together with the new hotel, part of the UK’s biggest hotel chain, will help to regenerate an important gateway to Birmingham. The development will offer quality services and fill a gap in the market whilst supporting our vision for an enhanced Hagley Road.”

John Bates, Regional Acquistions Manager for Whitbread said: “Hagley Road is a prime location and offers an ideal site for us. This development means we have now opened over 500 hotels in the UK and is a key part of our expansion programme, which will see this 65 bedroom hotel form part of the 3,000 rooms we plan on opening this financial year.”
