Think 07 - Setting the Green Agenda
May 2007
Calthorpe Estates was one of the pioneering supporters of a new revolutionary property, construction and building event, Think 07, which took place in London earlier this month.
The conference and exhibition at Excel in London addressed major areas such as sustainability, regeneration and innovation and involved such leading names as HRH Prince Charles, John Prescott, Lord Coe and Al Gore.
Think explored the responsibilities of the property and construction industries in dealing with the important issues of climate change, urban renewal and redevelopment.
The event echoed Calthorpe Estates’ own values and commitment to sustainability and high environmental standards. With the built environment accounting for around half of all the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions, it’s increasingly clear that changes need to be made to the way we design, construct and use buildings.
Calthorpe Estates is committed to delivering new and pioneering ‘green’ buildings in Edgbaston and is set to achieve Birmingham’s first BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating for the £2.2 million new build 19 George Road, which is to be followed by another BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating for the £40 million Grade A office accommodation, Calthorpe House.
David Povall, Commercial Director for Calthorpe Estates commented: “The Think event provided the perfect platform to discuss sustainability, regeneration and innovation matters and generated the opportunity for the industry to discuss the concerns that directly impact upon the way in which we operate.
“Our commitment to sustainability has been at the heart of Calthorpe Estates for nearly three centuries. Today’s challenging environmental standards are integral to our £350 million regeneration programme and all of our new office buildings are being built to exacting environmental criteria.”
