Calthorpe Estates Highly Commended for RICS Award

August 2007

5-8 George Road, part of Calthorpe Estates’ impressive property portfolio was highly commended for the RICS Building Conservation Award earlier this year.

Located in Edgbaston, one of England’s largest urban conservation areas, the £1.2 million refurbishment of the Grade II listed properties, ranging from 1448 sq ft to 1834 sq ft, transformed the buildings into high quality offices.

The properties were renovated to exacting standards to offer a contemporary interior office environment whilst retaining external period features and character.

Judges for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Awards commented: “Calthorpe Estates have taken these derelict properties and have lovingly and sensitively restored them as high quality offices.”

Jayne Herritty, Sales and Marketing Director for Calthorpe Estates said: “We are really proud to be highly commended for such a prestigious award. 5-8 George Road was a rewarding project. It was very important for us to make sure that we got the right balance between blending heritage with the environment as well as providing a functional space for occupiers.

“Sustainability is very much part of our ethos at Calthorpe Estates and has been for nearly three centuries. Preserving and maintaining existing properties is just as much part of our vision as developing new sustainable buildings.”

Among the oldest properties on the Calthorpe Estate, all four properties have been let to commercial occupiers.
