Calthorpe Estates at MIPIM
Mark Lee, Chief Executive of Calthorpe Estates, said:
“This is a very important year for Calthorpe Estates at MIPIM. As part of the largest Greater Birmingham contingent to ever attend the event, we will continue to build on our campaign to promote Edgbaston as a centre of excellence, particularly for the medical and life sciences sector. Our aim is to attract further worldwide investment and clustering into the rapidly developing healthcare and life sciences community within our 1,600 acre estate and across Birmingham.
“Edgbaston Medical Quarter (EMQ) is home to over 180 medical organisations, 80 hospitals and specialist centres, 44 GP clinics and 23 training facilities – all in walking distance of one another. As a knowledgeable and well-connected community within a small area, EMQ helps facilitate close collaboration between organisations in both the public and private sectors; notably the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Birmingham on the ‘100,000 Genomes Project’.
“The reputation of this collaborative community continues to soar at regional, national and international level. At MIPIM, we will actively promote this world-class offering, along with Calthorpe Estates’ ability to work in partnership with local government, Medilink and the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network to find routes into the NHS, public and private sectors.
“Calthorpe Estates is also working with Birmingham City Council to develop the desired infrastructure and facilities for all sizes of organisations. This involves major development schemes, such as Pebble Mill, which is home to the new £50 million Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry, as well as developing over 1 million sq ft of pipeline space. Our ambition is to create a health and science community where businesses can grow without having to relocate. This ‘stepping stone’ approach will encompass new start-up enterprise space through to Global Head Quarter accommodation. Furthermore, organisations locating to Edgbaston can benefit from being surrounded by residential, leisure and educational facilities.
“With the launch of direct routes from Birmingham International Airport to a range of new worldwide locations and the future delivery of HS2, which will speed up travel time and extend capacity between Birmingham and London, the opportunities are widening for inward investment.”
