Top of the class for Edgbaston school

Norfolk House School, on the Calthorpe Estate, has proved to be top of the class after undergoing a rigorous, three-day inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) recently.

The results of the qualitative assessment saw the inspectors praise the school on the quality of pupils’ personal development, indicating that their social development was ‘excellent’. They also concluded that “pupils achieve excellent results in competitive entry examinations for senior schools”, while “pupils throughout the school develop good knowledge in all areas of learning and acquire skills that help them to apply their understanding.”

The school was also compliance assessed against the standards set in the Education (Independent School Standards) Regulations 2014 and found to be compliant in all eight categories, including the quality of education provided, welfare, health and safety of pupils and quality of leadership and management.

The inspection, which came just three weeks after Susannah Palmer had taken up the reins as Headmistress, continues the positive news from Norfolk House after its two sister nurseries achieved the Millie’s Mark accreditation for first aid earlier this summer.

Jonathan Challinor, Director at Norfolk House School, said: “We are extremely pleased with the report from the ISI, especially as the inspection occurred within a couple of weeks of our new Headmistress, Susannah Palmer, joining us. Inspections are integral to ensuring that schools across the UK are compliant with the regulations and deliver a programme which benefits pupils. The feedback confirms that we continue to make progress in the right channels but, never ones to rest on our laurels, we’ll be using the report to determine how we can improve the quality of our offering further.”

Nicki Gibberson, Head of Marketing at Calthorpe Estates, added: “Edgbaston is renowned for the high standard of its educational facilities and boasts an array of outstanding educational establishments. Norfolk House School and Norfolk House Nursery have a proud history of being part of the Estate and they have, along with other educational facilities, been central to helping us create thriving communities. We are delighted to see the school has received a positive inspection, demonstrating its continued commitment to high quality standards of education.”

Norfolk House School and Norfolk House Nursery are three of the many leading educational facilities on the Calthorpe Estate, with locations on Norfolk Road and Harborne Road.
